Ghost night
The film's story is driven by the two diametrically opposed protagonists who reveal themselves through dialogue. As the film's screenwriter, my job is to create clear and stylized dialogues; as the director, I have the obligation to tamper with them, transform them, and make them realistic. All thanks to the help of the two great actors who star in the film. "Notte fantasma" (Ghost Night) falls into the category of "all in one night" films. The limited hours allow for a focus on details, giving importance to those small things that would otherwise be overlooked in other stories. The night isolates the characters as if, in the darkness, time were still and space became an abstract place.
The idea for this story came to me imagining a policeman's abuse of power, forcing someone caught in the act of a crime to do what he wants. I often reflect on power and the delicacy and complexity of those who have to manage it. I had in mind a policeman who, in a club, forces a young man to dance, and from there I started trying to imagine what came before and after.
The visual and musical style chosen is my personal interpretation of neo-noir.
The Roman setting is very important to me, and all the locations crossed in the film are carefully chosen: Pigneto, Mandrione, Verano, a tavern in San Lorenzo, Termini, Monti, and Tiber Island are places that carry stories with them and that for me represent the city where I was born and raised.
