Synopsis

In “Vacanze ai Caraibi”, Mario (Christian De Sica) discovers that his young daughter intends to marry an older gentleman: Ottavio (Massimo Ghini).

Mario and his wife (Angela Finocchiaro) are absolutely against it, but when they discover that Ottavio is extremely wealthy and could solve some of their financial problems, they change their minds, unaware that their future son-in-law is actually broke. Between Fausto (Luca Argentero) and Claudia (Ilaria Spada), an uncontrollable passion ignites, leading them to drop their respective partners on the spot. But perhaps they would have done better to get to know each other more deeply, as they will discover an insurmountable incompatibility between them. What can happen to a technophile (Dario Bandiera) if he ends up shipwrecked on a desert island with his inseparable tablet, which has always regulated his life, only to discover there’s no signal?

Director's notes
  • "Vacanze ai Caraibi" was born in Rome in January 2015 in a bar in the Prati neighborhood when Neri Parenti, Fausto Brizzi, and Marco Martani, the three musketeers of about ten Christmas holiday films around the world, met, or rather, re-met. From memories, it's a short step to an idea. Why not remake the true old-style "cinepanettone" – breakneck comedy, gags, exotic locations, famous music, big-name actors? The producers, director, and screenwriters were already in that bar; it was just a matter of getting old and new friends on board. And so, De Sica and Ghini, from "Natale a Miami / New York / Rio / Los Angeles / Sud Africa." Dario Bandiera: "Vacanze di Natale." We needed two beautiful and witty people, and after meticulous research, we managed to get Ilaria Spada and Luca Argentero on board, then, as the cherry on top, Angela Finocchiaro. In short, a big cast with a mega distribution, Medusa. In September, we left for the Caribbean. Lucky you, you might say, but the Caribbean is pleasant in winter; in summer – if you're making a film there – it's hell. Within a day, the weather changes about ten times, from torrential rains to scorching sun, with temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius and 90% humidity. Fortunately, we were a close-knit group, and with smiles on our faces, we enthusiastically and joyfully set about filming. The film turned out very well, very funny, very rich – in short, very... everything! And when we saw it, we forgot the constant costume changes due to humidity, the fainting spells from the heat, the beautiful but sometimes unreachable locations, the days besieged in a holiday village, and the usual small typhoon that is never missing from my films. In short, I eagerly await you at the cinema because I am sure, indeed very sure, that I have made a film that will make you die laughing.
